Boston Celtics Captain 2022

Celtics to Have Co-Captains for the 2022-23 Season

Breaking from Brad Stevens' Tradition

By Andrew Doxy, October 2, 2021, 2:10 PM

For the first time since Brad Stevens took over as head coach, the Boston Celtics will have co-captains for the upcoming season. This marks a departure from Stevens' previous policy of having a single captain lead the team.

The Celtics have not yet announced who will serve as co-captains, but there are a few strong contenders for the role. Jayson Tatum, Marcus Smart, and Jaylen Brown are all seen as potential leaders of the team.

Tatum is the Celtics' leading scorer and has been a key part of their success in recent years. Smart is a defensive stalwart and has been a vocal leader in the locker room. Brown is a rising star who has shown flashes of brilliance on both ends of the court.

Whoever is named co-captains, they will have big shoes to fill. The Celtics have a rich history of leadership, with Bill Russell, Larry Bird, and Paul Pierce all having served as captains in the past.

The Celtics are hoping that their new co-captains can help them return to the NBA Finals and win their first championship since 2008.
